Travelodge Atlantic Wharf  is in Cardiff Bay which has been transformed with a make-over similar to
Bristol's 'Floating Harbour', by putting a Barrage across the mouth of the old muddy and smelly bay
it has been turned into a freshwater lake.
Now desirable residential appartments, hotels, casinos, restaurants and The Welsh Assembly border the Bay.

Evening - Quench thirst at the Mount Stuart Witherspoon's then on to The Red Dragon Centre Oriental Garden
for a Chinese style buffet meal.

Friday - Traveling around Cardiff Bay.
First, the Pier Head Building (Originally offices for the Bute Dock Co.).
Then next door to the Welsh National Assembly.

After passing through strict security we were protected by 'friendly' sub-machine gun toting guards.

(No GED members were shot during this visit !)

Now on to the Norwegian Church Arts Centre (Associations with Roald Dahl)     For 1/10 of a 'Welsh Cake' each !

Pint at The Water Guard.     Drink what you like as long as it is a 'Sam Smith's' beer.

After Lunch, a trip round the bay and along the River Ely in the open boat Daffodil.   Jocular 'Ben' gave a running commentary.
This gave a close look at the Barrage with its Locks and Fish Ladder.
It was pretty chilly so Ben provided blankets for the old men !

Evening tried deserted The Packet (A Brains pub.) and so on to the Eli Jenkins.
Meal at the Red Dragon Centre Spice Route an Indian style buffet.

Saturday - Aqua Bus along the River Taff to Cardiff city centre, visiting Cardiff Castle.

Cardiff Castle is not what it appears to be. It was built by the Marquis of Bute in the 1920s following the finding of some medieval and Roman wall remains. Tour with commentary using hand held audio guides.

Now by bus to Penarth across Cardiff Bay with its seaside pier.
Some now hiked back to Cardiff using the Bay Trail along the Barrage.

Evening - After another visit to Mount Stuart Witherspoons
( who had virtually no draught beer )

A rather splendid meal at Carluccio's Italian restaurant.

Many thanks to Brian for his research and putting together another great weekend;        again not a drop of rain in Wales !
